New Zealand and Auckland have a huge range of accommodation and tourist / adventure / sightseeing activities. I won't even try to describe them all.
If I can find a good reference for general tourist accommodation & activities in New Zealand I'll include it. Meanwhile, I'll just stick to Xena-related stuff...
In Auckland, accommodation ranges from high-priced hotels right down to backpackers' at $20(NZ) a night or so. It's perfectly possible to stay anywhere in Auckland and 'do' all the local Xena sites - including Bethells - by hire car, since they're all within an hours' drive.

Out on the West Coast, and particularly Bethells, accommodation is much more limited. In the days when it took all day to get there from Auckland, Bethells was a popular local tourist destination. Now, ironically, it's much quieter since Aucklanders on vacation all go further afield. If you want to get away from the city / tourist rush and experience a relaxed country 'west coast' atmosphere, Bethells is one of the pleasantest places in the Auckland region.

There is just one Xena-related place to stay at Bethells:
Bethells Beach Cottages, on a private track perched above the south end of the beach with sweeping views back up the beach to the north. Xena filming took place all round the area (see other pages on this site).

The proprietors are happy to talk about the show that seems to have involved so many of the local people in its production.

Activities

Well, location hunting is the only Xena-related activity I know of, currently. Everyone's moved on to other things and there are no Xena theme parks here. Such is the way of things.
